Michael Steele criticized Obama's decision about the war in Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON DC, Republican Leader Michael Steele faced severe criticism and calls for the resignation on Friday (02/07/2010), after he blamed President Barack Obama over the war in Afghanistan and America could not win the war.

In Republican fund-raiser in Connecticut, Thursday, while Steele recorded criticized Obama's decision to boost the war effort in Afghanistan. The statement was the opposite with the party establishment, which has consistently been pushing additional troops and funds in Afghanistan. "This is a war that Obama elected," said Steele, the leader of the Republican National Committee. "This is not something that has been actively carried out or chosen by the United States."

Steele also mentioned the resignation of the U.S. war commander in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal recently was "ridiculous" and make fun of Obama because it decided to increase the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. "If he is a student majoring in history, does he not understand that you all know it is not something you do, get involved in a land war in Afghanistan?" Steele told the crowd to ask questions in a video tape that was quickly circulated by Democratic members and posted on YouTube. "For every man who has been trying, for thousands of years of history, has failed," he said.

United States invaded Afghanistan under President George W. Bush in retaliation for the attacks of September 11, 2001, which is said to be done by Al-Qaeda - whose leaders have been hiding there.

That comment sparked a wave of criticism from Democrats and calls for the resignation of Steele, who led by conservative columnist Bill Kristol Republican. "Needless to say, the war in Afghanistan is not a 'war chosen Obama'," Kristol said in a block page of the Weekly Standard magazine. "That has been done by the United States under President Bush and Obama. Republicans have consistently supported those efforts.

Steele issued a statement trying to get out of the controversy, saying Obama" change the U.S. military focus from Iraq to Afghanistan this means is a strategy. As we have seen throughout history, to win the war in Afghanistan is a difficult task. We must also remember that after September 11, 2001, it also is the action that needs to be done," said Steele. "The stakes are too high for us to accept anything other than success in Afghanistan."

Steele's statement attacking the Democratic Party, who tried to help the Republican Party for huge gains in congressional elections in November. "It's immoral that Michael Steele would damage the morale of our troops when they need is encouragement and support us," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse.

Steele has been involved in a series of controversies since he took over the party leadership position last year, including questions megnenai party spending excessive and commentary on a number of talks ranging from abortion to race to a conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh.
