Toby Keith headlines the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular (CBS, 10 p.m.) from the Esplanade in Boston. Craig Ferguson returns to host. Jimmy Smits hosts the annual "A Capitol Fourth" (CPTV, 8 p.m.) event on the West Lawn, featuring musical contributions from Reba McEntire, Gladys Knight, David Archuleta, Darius Rucker and the national Symphony Orchestra. But the giant deal is the fireworks. The show is distinctive in not using the word "spectacular" in its title, but then again, this is public tv. There is some decorum. There may be something partiotic in the intent of a 20-hour marathon of "Greatest American Hero" (Syfy, 9 a.m.) which, shockingly replaces the annual marathon of "The Twilight Zone."
Other heroes today, from "Spider-Man 3" (FX, 5:30 p.m.) to "Starsky & Hutch" (TBS, 8 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.) may disagee, as well.. Weekend advice: Don't go in the water. Such is the lesson of "Jaws" (Encore, 4:45 a.m., 12:45 and 8 p.m.) "Jaws 2" (Encore, 6:45 a.m. 2:45 and 10 p.m.), "Jaws 3" (Encore, 8:45 a.m., 4:45 p.m., 12:15 a.m.) and "Jaws: The Revenge" (Encore, 11:15 a.m., 6:30 p.m., 1:45 a.m.). You may tire of their menacing theme by the finish of the day.
Sorry, no new episode of "True Blood" (HBO, 8 p.m.); in lieu a two episode update. American musicals get the focus on Turner Classic Movies with "1776" (2:30 a.m.), "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (5:30 p.m.) as well as "Bye Bye Birdie" (8 p.m.), "Oklahoma!" (10 p.m.) and "Gigi" (3:30 a.m.), preceded on the Italian original "Gigi" (2 a.m.). In the midst of allthis is Buster Keaton's classic silent, "The General" (12:30 a.m.). "Bridezillas" (They, 9 p.m.) reaches its 100th episode. Dismaying to know there is that lots of females famous for freaking out on their giant day.
Wimbeldon (NBC, 9 a.m.) ends with Rafael Nadel and Tomas Berdych in the men's final. Baseball action includes Blue Jays at Yankees (TBS, YES, 1 p.m.), Mets at Nationals (SNY, 1:30 p.m.) and Orioles at Red Sox (NESN, 1:30 p.m.) and Royals at Angels (ESPN, 8 p.m.). Stage one of the Tour de germany (Versus, 8:30 a.m.) is from Rotterdam to Bruxelles.
